Expert Groups
UCI supports interdisciplinary, multi-professional expert groups that address specific issues related to the care and follow-up of children, young adults and geriatric patients.
Expert Group Cancer Survivorship
Rapidly evolving treatment options and technologies are helping to increase the chances of survival for children, adolescents and young adults diagnosed with cancer. The expert group deals with the latest developments and future care options for cancer survivors, in particular with long-term effects, aftercare and chronic diseases, fatigue, psychosocial aspects and fertility.
Expert Group Geriatric Oncology
Geriatric syndromes in people over 80 years of age influence the therapy of oncological disease. The special needs and values of people in the final phase of life must be taken into account. These needs are often vulnerable or frail in people who suffer often from several different illnesses. This increases the complexity of the disease process and the risk of therapy complications. The expert group is dedicated to specific questions regarding the adequate treatment of the very old.
Expert Group Adolescents and Young Adults
Adolescents and young adults with cancer between the ages of 14 and 25 are between pediatric and adult oncology. They lack both the “family focus” of pediatric oncology and the “disease focus” of adult oncology. The expert group wants to better understand the needs of this patient group and make them heard. The aim is for the various disciplines at the Inselspital to be able to respond more specifically to this patient group.
